Ed Miliband makes a statement concerning #Israel’s attack on #Gaza (#UK #MiddleEast @UKLabour)

miligazaThe Labour leader, Ed Miliband has said that his party opposes Israel’s incursion into Gaza.

Speaking to the Huffington Post after his visit to the White House on Monday Miliband said that the incursion into Gaza is likely to help Hamas’ recruiting efforts and undermine Israel in the eyes of the international community. “I don’t think it will help win Israel friends,” he said. “I don’t think this will make the situation better. I fear it will make it worse.”

“As a party we oppose the further escalation of violence we have seen with Israel’s invasion of Gaza,” he said. “I defend Israel’s right to defend itself against rocket attacks. But I cannot explain, justify or defend the horrifying deaths of hundreds of Palestinians, including children and innocent civilians.”

“I am concerned that the more settlements there are the more the growth of settlements can become a problem in relation to the peace process,” he said.

Since Miliband’s statements there has been a dramatic escalation of the Zionist offensive, and the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Navi Pillay, has called for an independent investigation into incidents which would constitute war crimes contrary to international humanitarian law.

Credit where credit is due – at least Miliband has said something which indicates that he and his party are concerned about the humanitarian cost of the Zionist government’s criminal actions.

We hope that as the leader of one of the main political parties, Miliband will speak out more and put pressure on the useless UK government to take positive action in bringing the Zionist government of Israel to task, and lead the way in demanding that the international community impose the severest penalties possible on the Zionists.

So far we have yet to hear any statement from the Liberal Democrat or Conservative leaders (known as the ‘Cowards of Downing Street’) concerning the Zionist’s crimes or the humanitarian crisis developing in Gaza.
