The mainstream media seems to get more ridiculous by the minute as this week’s headlines are dominated by Harriet Harman’s links to the Paedophile Information Exchange (PIE) when she joined the National Council for Civil Liberties (NCCL – now known as Liberty) in 1978.
Harman’s links to PIE is not new news, so it is highly suspicious that just before a general election is due the Daily Mail has started a campaign highlighting that the National Council for Civil Liberties received donations from PIE.
Harman joined the NCCL in 1978 as a legal officer. In April 1978, the NCCL published a briefing paper on the Protection of Children Bill that was before Parliament. The author – one Harriet Harman – was worried that the draft Bill placed the onus on adults caught with film or photographs of nude children to show that they were possessed with a view to “scientific or learned study”.
“Our amendment places the onus of proof on the prosecution to show that the child was actually harmed,” she wrote.
The NCCL had long supported lowering the age of consent to 14 years of age, and the organisation had long defended ‘harmless paedophilia’.
In a submission to the Criminal Law Revision Committee in 1976 (two years before Harman joined the organisation) the NCCL report said “Childhood sexual experiences, willingly engaged in, with an adult result in no identifiable damage… The real need is a change in the attitude which assumes that all cases of paedophilia result in lasting damage.”
The NCCL was also involved in campaigning for women’s rights, the right to public protest, data protection, opposition to racial discrimination, gay rights, and many other causes which the organisation considered threatened the liberty of UK citizens.
So in over 30 years of this information being available why would the Daily Mail now decide the information is in the public interest?
It is so obvious it is laughable. The Conservative party are on its knees and desperate to gain some kind of public support for the next general election. After they received a dose of reality in the Wythenshawe and Sale East by-election earlier this month where the Conservative party came a miserable third, they may have realised that the public have woken up to the reality of a Conservative government.
Obviously this is a Conservative smear campaign using their ‘friends in the media’ to cause as much damage to the opposition as possible, because the Conservatives are unable to engage in a fair campaign and have to resort to dirty tactics. An absolute bunch of losers.
If the Daily Mail are so concerned about political involvement in paedophilia and other horrendous acts of child sexual abuse, why are they not asking questions about the Conservative MPs – some of them still serving – who were involved in the abuse of children from a Welsh care home, and conducted their depraved activities at Elm Guest House in London?
In particular, perhaps they should take a closer look at William Hague who was involved in the enquiry and was allegedly involved in censoring the evidence of victims.
The Daily Mail seem remarkably quiet about that.
