HUMAN RIGHTS – Remembering Rosa Parks (1955 – 2005)

Today (February 4th) would have been civil rights activist Rosa Parks 100th birthday

On December 1st 1955 in Montgomery, Alabama, Rosa refused to give up her seat on a bus on the coloured section of a bus to a white passenger because the white section was full.

From that day, Rosa became a symbol of resistance against the racial segregation which dogged the United States, with congress calling her ‘the First Lady of civil rights’.

Rosa died at the age of 92 on 24th October 2005 in Detroit, leaving a lifetime of achievement as one of the most respected civil rights activists of our time.
