UK – Leveson interfering with internet privacy laws

At a privacy symposium in Australian, Leveson expressed that the internet (including social media sites and communications) need to be regulated.

He stated that while information on the internet is not considered as reliable as the mainstream press, he said new legislation would reduce the amount of ‘mod rule’ and the internet’s use as a ‘global megaphone for gossip’.

In his recent report, Leveson hardly touched on the subject of the internet and we criticise him for making statements with no significant knowledge of the impact of such legislation. The same criticism levelled at those who initially reacted to his recent support.
